WoodCreek Reserve Developer Named Among "The Katy 10: the 10 most
influential people in the Katy area" by The Katy Sun
August 19, 2010 - The Katy Sun announced the 10 most influential people in the Katy area this week and Troy Maxwell, developer of WoodCreek Reserve, was named as the Katy area's most influential business leader.
The men and women chosen to be on this list of Katy's top movers and shakers are all connected by their love for and commitment to Katy. The Sun recently polled community members, activists, politicians and business leaders to determine the area's most dynamic and influential people.
All 10 have worked hard in everything from government to business and make Katy the place it is.
Maxwell, who founded WoodCreek Development Company in 1999, is the developer of Katy Main Street, WoodCreek Resere and other developments outside of Katy. He recently purchased 2000-acres north of the City of Katy for future development and land at Park Ten Road to build an office and retail development.
"I have been working with Troy Maxwell since 2006 and believe his charitable nature locally is what sets him apart from other developers in the community," said Robert Anthony, from Landstar Realty Advisors, Inc. and WoodCreek Development Company. "As a business partner, he is everything you could hope for and more: creative, determined, friendly and supportive."
Others on the list include:
Education: Alton Frailey
Government: Don Elder Jr.
Commerce: Ann Hodge
Politics: Glenn Hegar
Carol Adams
Sports: Gary Joseph
Community: Stan Stanley
Arts: Terri Beiber
History: Roberta Rylander
H-E-B Katy Market Now Open
H-E-B has opened its doors at Katy Main Street at Pin Oak and Interstate 10, the first major food store in Katy proper since Wal-Mart opened at Katy Mills mall a few years back. Part of the Katy Main Street project, the new H-E-B has everything from a sushi bar to an in-store tortilleria, with 650 types of produce and more than 500 types of cheese. A pharmacy, health foods section and wine section — with wine steward — will be part of the mix. This new state-of-the-art grocery stores means that WoodCreek Reserve residents can shop just minutes from home; an ultimate convenience for busy families.

KINGSLAND BOULEVARD BRIDGE NOW OPEN
The Kingsland Boulevard Bridge opened on Tuesday, February 23, following a formal ribbon cutting ceremony. The completion of the bridge finalizes the connection between Barker Cypress Road and FM 1463, meaning improved access and quicker commute times for many Katy area residents. The bridge was a partnership of WoodCreek Development Company, the City of Katy and Fort Bend County.
The opening of the bridge also means quicker access to shopping and services for area residents. One example is Katy Main Street, a retail and business development at the southwest corner of the Katy Freeway and Pin Oak Road/Kingsland Boulevard, which is now underway. HEB has started construction at the site and expects to open the store in June. Walgreens is now open and the site, developed by WoodCreek Development Company and BPI Realty, is an 86-acre project that will also include restaurants, additional retail, office space and a hotel.
In addition to the new infrastructure and commercial development, WoodCreek Development has plans to develop three new sections in their WoodCreek Reserve residential development. The 500-acre master-planned community offers homes from the $250,000s to over $1 million and includes an exemplary-rated elementary school and exemplary-rated junior high school on-site. “This area is doing tremendously well right now, and the opening of the Kingsland Boulevard Bridge and recent improvements to Interstate 10 makes it even more attractive for residents,” said WoodCreek Development Company President Troy Maxwell.
The Katy area is ranked nationally as a high-growth community despite the recent economic conditions.

WoodCreek Development Company Wins Texas Star Award
WoodCreek Development Company was honored on Friday, October 30th, by the Texas Association of Builders with a Star award for their WoodCreek Reserve/Katy ISD school brochure.
The brochure gives prospective home buyers and real estate agents a comprehensive overview of the Katy ISD schools that the children who live in WoodCreek Reserve attend. “Our schools are one of our biggest selling points,” according to WoodCreek Development president Troy Maxwell. “We want to make sure that potential home owners are aware of the many educational benefits and differences we offer in this community.”
Working closely with the Katy ISD public information office, WoodCreek Development Company interviewed several students, parents, and teachers for the piece and shares those testimonials in the brochure. In addition, each school is profiled and the ratings and statistics from independent agencies are included.
WoodCreek Reserve features an on-site elementary school which opened in 2007, and a middle school which opened in 2008. Both are rated “Exemplary”, which is the top rating awarded by the Texas Education Agency.
The Star awards were held in conjunction with the Texas Association of Builder’s Sunbelt Builders show which was held in Grapevine, Texas. The 2009 Star Awards showcased the outstanding work of developers, builders, remodelers, architects, designers, sales professionals, marketing professionals, construction professionals, and industry leaders in Texas and the Southwest.

WoodCreek Elementary and WoodCreek Junior High Receive "Exemplary" TEA Ratings in 2009 Report
By Katy ISD Communications
For the second straight year, outstanding student achievement produced a “Recognized” accountability rating for the Katy Independent School District. For the 2008-09 school year, 90 percent of Katy ISD campuses received a rating of recognized or above with 24 campuses receiving an exemplary rating (49%) and 20 campuses receiving a recognized rating (41%). In addition, the district and all campuses, other than the four new campuses that were not rated this year, have met 2009 Preliminary Adequate Yearly Progress.
WoodCreek Elementary received an "Exemplary" rating for the second straight year and WoodCreek Junior High opened for the 08-09 school year and received the TEA's highest "Exemplary" rating during its first year.
“We are very excited to be able to celebrate the fact that so many of our campuses received a rating of recognized or above,” says Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey. However, we cannot rest as there is still much work to do to ensure that we identify every child in our district that is still struggling and that they receive focused attention they need in order for them to succeed.”
On the 2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), district-wide performance for all students tested in all grades reached the “Exemplary” level (90%-plus) in reading/language arts (96%), math (91%), writing (97%) and social studies (97%), and the “Recognized” level (80%-plus) in science (88%). On 25 TAKS performance indicators (five student groups tested in each of five subject areas), Katy ISD reached the “Exemplary” level on 18, “Recognized” on four and “Acceptable” on three. New this year is the Texas Projection Measure (TPM), which is reported in mathematics, reading, English language arts, science, social studies, and writing. The TPM was implemented to satisfy requirements of House Bill 1 and Senate Bill 1031, which were passed by the Texas legislature in 2006 and 2007, requiring Texas to measure student progress over time. More information about the TPM can be found on the TEA website at www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/resources/growth_proposal/index.html.
“One of our goals is to decrease the academic performance disparities among students by addressing their needs individually,” explains Dr. Sharon Boutwell, assistant superintendent for leadership and organizational development. “To determine these needs, we examine data from both the district and campus levels to identify strengths and concerns. State standards are a natural part of this process to ensure we will not only meet but exceed state expectations. Our approach supports a focus on the response required for identified students that puts into action an effort of teamwork between central office and campus level personnel.

WOODCREEK RESIDENTS ENJOY WORLD-CLASS HEALTHCARE
CLOSE TO HOME
Having world-class healthcare close to home is just another benefit of living in WoodCreek Reserve. Several new facilities, both under construction and newly opened, will provide quality health care and a wide range of services to residents of all ages, convenient to home.
Texas Children's Hospital is building its newest campus in West Houston and will open next year. This new hospital will serve residents in west Houston and Katy with the same world renowned health care and technology as the original location in the Texas Medical Center. The 55-acre site is located at I-10 and Barker-Cypress. Texas Children's Hospital reports that by 2010, Texas Children's Hospital will be one of the largest suburban pediatric medical centers in the nation. The hospital will be licensed for 96 intermediate and acute beds, an emergency center, inpatient and outpatient operating rooms, an ambulatory care facility, diagnostic imaging, physical medicine and rehabilitation services, medical subspecialty care and physician office space. When open, the new campus will be known as the first community hospital just for kids. The building is planned to open in late 2009.
Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital opened last year. Construction costs topped $100 million and resulted in a 127-room, 310,000-square-foot facility filled with the newest technology. The facility has four operating tables, a cystoscopy room, and a staff of 790, including physicians. The Texas Department of State Health Services has designated Katy Hospital as the only Level IV trauma facility in the Katy area, according a report in the Katy Times.
Specialty services include orthopedic surgery, heart and vascular diagnosis and treatment, cancer services, women's health and advanced diagnostic imaging. Life Flight is also able to land at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.
Construction is also underway for the Methodist Hospital System's west Houston hospital next to the site where the new Texas Children Hospital is being built. This new facility will be a 192-bed hospital with a state-of-the-art imaging center. The new community hospital, which will be the fourth in the Methodist System, will offer the growing westside communities 14 operating rooms, a breast center, radiation therapy and labor and delivery services, among other features.
An emergency department, with the capacity to treat more than 30,000 patients annually, and imaging capabilities, will also be a part of the hospital.
St. Luke's Episcopal Health System will also be a part of the Katy area. Plans are underway for a 90-bed community hospital on nearly 30 acres of land located at the southwest corner of the Grand Parkway and Kingsland Boulevard, just south of I-10.
St. Luke plans to develop the campus in phases as it grows. The new building will also feature medical offices to support the new hospital's facilities, as well as a senior care facility and a wellness development center.
The Christus St. Catherine Hospital on South Fry Road has recently completed a $50 million expansion. The hospital has more than 400 physicians and 664 employees of which 244 are nurses.
The expansion has yielded a new women's imaging center, a second catheterization lab and the only positron emission tomography in Katy. It has recently added two additional floors on our new tower that are already shelled. This nonprofit hospital is also the only hospital-based Sleep Center in Katy.
